Romania addressed the United States a request to purchase Patriot missile defense systems, President Klaus Iohannis said today at the Mihail Kogălniceanu airbase.
He explained that negotiations will start only after the US approval.
The Head of State has visited, today, the "Mihail Kogălniceanu" Administrative Center in Constanţa County, where one of the stages of the multinational exercise SABER GUARDIAN 17, the largest military exercise in the modern history of Romania, is currently taking place.
The acquisition of Patriot ground-to-air missiles is one of the eight priority army endowment programs, to be achieved from the two percent of the GDP allocated to Defense by 2026.
The cost of Patriot missiles, including technical support and equipment, is estimated at $ 3.9 billion.
