Klaus Iohannis, discussion with Ursula von der Leyen: Social media security must be strengthened

President Klaus Iohannis announced that he spoke by phone with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with whom he agreed that social media security must be strengthened following the elections in Romania.

The call took place after the Constitutional Court ruled on Friday to annul the first round of the presidential elections and to start the whole electoral process from scratch.

According to the CC, the freely expressed nature of the vote was violated by misinforming voters through a campaign in which the independent candidate Calin Georgescu, who won the first round of the elections, was aggressively promoted, circumventing national electoral legislation, by abusing the algorithms of social media platforms and by not using specific election advertising signs.
