President Klaus Iohannis calls, in the message sent on the occasion of Romani Liberation Day, to discourage and sanction hate speech, racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic manifestations.
The liberation of the Romani people, 165 years ago, played a major role in changing the profile and values of society at that time, preparing the country for the encounter with its European modernity, the message reads.
Overcoming the consequences of this past is a great challenge for Romania, which must capitalize more and more on the identity, potential, capabilities and energy of its Roma citizens, says Klaus Iohannis.
