On Saturday, President Klaus Iohannis decorated several personalities from the Romanian Jewish community with high state awards, on the occasion of the National Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The awards were given with special respect for the suffering endured during World War II, for the high moral they showed throughout their lives, and for the efforts made to keep alive the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, it is shown in a press release sent by the Presidential Administration.
Marked every year in Romania, since 2004, the National Holocaust Remembrance Day also has the role of reminding about Romania's involvement in this tragic episode of history. October 9 was chosen because on this day, in 1941, the deportation of Jews from Bukovina to Transnistria began.
