Justice Minister Tudorel Toader has announced today about submitting request to President Klaus Iohannis for dismissal of General Prosecutor Augustin Lazăr.
Justice Minister has also announced about submitting five proposals for appointments as Senior Prosecutor positions within the General Prosecutors’ Offices, including proposal for prosecutor Adina Florea as Head of National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).
Romanian President previously rejected Justice Minister’s proposal to appoint Florea as DNA Head. President also rejected four other nominations for senior prosecutor positions within the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Anti-Organized Crime Directorate – DIICOT. He argued that nominations didn’t meet all legal conditions.
UPDATE: General Prosecutor Augustin Lazăr states that the request for his dismissal, announced by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, ignores the law, recommendations of the European institutions and has a strictly political content. Statements and inquiries initiated by Minister of Justice are likely to affect public confidence in the institution's capacity to fulfill its constitutional role, Lazăr says.
