Promoting the rule of law and the independence of the Judiciary, fighting corruption, ensuring integrity in public functions and dignities are constitutional values that can not be negotiated, restricted or eliminated, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis stated in his message on the occasion of Romania’s Constitution Day.
In any democracy, the Constitution is the highest expression of the values of a nation and provides the trusting relationship between citizens and state institutions, essential for the solid and sustainable development of any society, the Head of the Romanian state said.
Today, when we celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption by referendum, Romanians are more united than ever around some fundamental principles, and they are actively campaigning for these principles to be respected, without accepting any step backwards, President Iohannis notes.
Romanian President urges all state’s institutions to take into account not only the letter, but also the spirit of the Fundamental Law, an indispensable condition for the good governance of the Romanian society.
