Approximately 900 Romanian and American soldiers, with over 70 technical means, were jointly trained, between March 2-10, at the Secondary Training Center for Combat of the Romanian Land Forces (CSIL), from Smardan, Galati County, within the exercise "Justice Eagle 22.1", an exercise that takes place annually in Romania, and which has been scheduled since December last year.
According to Colonel Adrian Costaru, the commander of the 9th Mechanized Brigade "Marasesti", out of the 900 soldiers mobilized in the combat exercise, 150 are Romanians and 750 are Americans. The Romanian soldiers participating in the exercise are part of the units of the 9th Mechanized Brigade "Marasesti" (341st Infantry Battalion "Constanta", 911th Infantry Battalion "Capidava", 912th Tank Battalion "Scythia Minor", 114th Tank Battalion "Petru Cercel" and the 168th Logistic Support Battalion "Pontus Euxinus").
The American military comes from the detachments deployed in Romania as part of the measures to consolidate the allied position on the entire eastern flank of NATO, as a defensive formula to ensure the security of the allies and to discourage aggressive actions in the Black Sea region.
The purpose of the combat exercise was to demonstrate the ability to react to the action of an opponent, based on a fictitious scenario.
The objectives were to verify the deployment / redeployment capacity of the forces and combat equipment, the integration of forces in a multinational context, the implementation of standard procedures, increased cohesion of forces and interoperability.
The "Justice Eagle 22.1" exercise, organized by the 9th Mechanized Brigade "Marasesti", is based on a unique imaginary scenario, but adapted to possible real threats, in order to develop functional relations between participating structures and harmonize operational procedures specific to offensive operations.
The multinational "Justice Eagle" exercise takes place annually in Romania and aims to increase the interoperability of NATO member armed forces, maintain the ability to deploy and train together by providing logistical support and developing a regional environment conducive to multinational military cooperation.
