EU Executive has set the agenda for the next period, to be presented to European leaders during EU Summit in Sibiu. EU executive considers it is time to set new priorities in the context of the European Elections and to change the leadership of the European institutions.
„Sibiu Declaration” will be a good opportunity to show what the European Union can do in the future – this is the message that European Commission President, Jean Claude Juncker, is sending.
EC President, Jean Claude Juncker:When I suggested this meeting in my speech on 'The State of the Union', my choice was not a random one, because the moment is an important one. Before the European Parliamentary Elections, we have to convey a message of unity and hope, we must show that we are determined to work together for our European project. We have chosen Sibiu because this city is a symbol of unity and diversity and we want to show that the European project is not only built in capitals and in Brussels, but also in cities and regions - the European official stressed.
European Council President, Donald Tusk, in the invitation he sent to the European leaders for the Sibiu Summit, also suggests them to adopt the „Sibiu Declaration”, thus sending a message of unity and confidence in joint actions.
According to the outline of the EU Strategic Agenda, mentioned in the invitation letter sent to the 27 Heads of State or Government for the next five years, the four pillars of the European Union will be protection of citizens and freedom, developing an economic model for the future, fighting climate change, and promoting interests and the values of Europe in the world.
