European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is to interview, on Thursday, MEP Ioan Mircea Paşcu, proposed by the Romanian Government to take over the position of European Commissioner for Regional Policy.
Romania's proposal comes following resignation of Corina Crețu from this position, in order to continue her career as a Member of the European Parliament.
Previously, President of the European Commission had asked the Council of the EU not to appoint other Commissioners for positions remained vacant during the last four months of his mandate.
Assignment of new portfolios is the exclusive decision of the President of the European Commission, but skills and competencies of the candidates are taken into account, European Commission states.
Other vacant portfolio as a European Commissioner is Digital Policy and belongs to Estonia.
