Hostile behavior that comes from the East is an important threat to European security - President Klaus Iohannis said in the opening of a seminar on Security in Southeast Europe that took place today at the Cotroceni Palace.
Romania’s major objective is to strengthen its security through national efforts, but also by capitalizing on strategic partnerships, President Klaus Iohannis said at the opening.
Romanian President estimates that current security environment generates an opportunity window that places the region of Romania in the transatlantic debates. Head of State has mentioned the lines of action that should be taken into account in the near future and ahead of the July NATO summit in Brussels.
Klaus Iohannis: First, solidarity within NATO must be strengthened, including by enhancing the transatlantic relationship. That is why Romania encourages the activities of US military on its territory, within allied or bilateral framework, and the increase of the US soldiers and military equipment in Romania. Second, we support the development of the NATO-EU partnership. By reaching the third major line of action, it is essential to ensure the unity, coherence and consolidation of allied measures on the eastern flank, as part of NATO's deterrent and defense posture.
According to President Klaus Iohannis, Romania will continue to support equitable sharing of responsibilities within NATO and to respect its commitment to allocate 2% of GDP for the Defense.
