Romania supports the European course of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine and is committed to providing assistance and sharing its experience in achieving European standards, said the interim President of the Senate, Alina Gorghiu, at the Interparliamentary Forum on Security at the Palace of Parliament.
She stressed that Romania is one of the strongest supporters of the two states.
Alina Gorghiu: The EU decision to invite Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the NATO decision to invite Finland and Sweden are elements that strengthen the democratic edifice on our continent. Romania is strongly committed and anchored in ensuring security and stability in the region, we have managed to build a strong, active and committed ally profile, we have the political maturity and international credibility and we have proved that we are a solid and resilient democracy.
In his turn, the President of the Parliament from Chisinau, Igor Grosu, reminded that his country has shown solidarity with Ukraine since the first day of the Russian invasion and appreciated in this context that the Republic of Moldova must rethink its own defense policy.
Igor Grosu: The Republic of Moldova does not have an effective shield against threats, because for 30 years we have not developed an adequate defense capacity, we have not built critical elements of infrastructure and we have not cultivated social resilience. A strong and well-equipped army offers the country freedom of action, self-confidence and strategic options, this is the only way we can be not only a beneficiary of security but also a supplier.
Igor Grosu met with the heads of the two chambers of the Parliament in Bucharest, on which occasion Romania's support for the reforms necessary for joining the European Union was reconfirmed.
