International Roma summit in Sibiu
The International Romani Union was established in 1971 when its first Congress was taking place and the date of April 8 was declared as Roma International Day.

Roma representatives in more than 30 countries were meeting in the central Transylvanian town of Sibiu in order to elect a new leadership of the International Romani Union.
As RADIO ROMANIA reported, the Roma meeting opened on Sunday when delegates discussed issues concerning their language and culture along with the economic. and social hardships the Roma communities were facing around the world.
Other issues at the talks on Sunday included the Roma Holocaust, human rights and migration.

At a meeting on Monday, Florin Cioabă, the self-proclaimed king of the Roma people around the world, was elected president of the organisation with 22 votes in favour, 3 against and 3 abstentions.
Delegates also elected four viceprecidents as well as presidents and commissioners in 14 committees.
