Inauguration of WWI Romanian Heroes’ Monument in Worms, Germany

On Tuesday, October 9th, Romanian State Secretary Nicolae Nasta attended the inauguration ceremony of WWI Romanian Heroes’ Monument, raised in Auf Der Hochimer Höhe Cemetery, Worms city, Renania-Palatinat Land, Germany, states a press release from the Romanian Ministry of Defense (MApN)
German part was represented by the Mayor of Worms city, Michael Kissel.
Event consisted in a military and religious ceremony and the solemn reading of the names of the 168 Romanian soldiers who lost their lives in the war prison camp which was operated in this locality, during World War I.
Building of the monument was funded by the Ministry of National Defense, through the National Office for the Cult of Heroes and raised with the support of Worms City-Hall. Finalization of this project set the stage for organizing several commemorative events to honor the Romanian servicemen fallen on German territory.
As a sign of gratitude, participants laid wreaths of flowers to the monument, at the end of the ceremony.
Event is part of the manifestations organized by the Romanian state to mark the First World War Centenary. At the end of the armed conflict, the Romanian people succeeded in achieving their national unity project – The Great Union from December 1st, 1918.
