RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Almost 285 thousand hectares of agricultural land were affected by the drought in Romania, according to the latest data centralized by the Ministry of Agriculture.
It is about data communicated from 30 counties, and the total area affected by the drought is more than 16.000 hectares larger than the one reported yesterday.
In today's meeting, the government analyzed the effects of the drought, a phenomenon that could end in the fall.
On the other hand, the authorities announce that wheat harvesting has ended, and production will fully cover domestic consumption even if it will be 15-18 percent lower than last year.
With details, Andrei Serban: "The pedological drought will continue this month as well, announced the Minister of the Environment, Tanczos Barna, who informed that things could gradually return to normal, with the rains that are expected starting next month. Moreover, the Government adopted a decision by which it allocates 9.5 million lei for the dredging of the Danube river and to avoid the interruption of navigation on the river due to the drought. Also in the government meeting, the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea, announced the end of the wheat harvest, which this year will be 15-18 percent lower than last year. The minister specified, however, that the production obtained fully ensures domestic consumption and provides availability for export."
