Police have published images of the man who set the fire at the Palace of Parliament in a public area and are appealing to the public to track him down. He has graying hair and is over 60. Specialized teams have also been placed on the streets to find him.
Police spokesman Octavian Dan said the fire only caused material damage and the suspect risks prison if found guilty.
Octavian Dan: From the first data it was a spontaneous conflict. The person in question did not throw the flammable substance at other people, but only at property, and the people in the area were not injured. The person who does an act of arson is a danger, that is why we are focused and we have teams on the ground to track him down as quickly as possible. It is a criminal offense under the Penal Code, punishable by between two and seven years in prison, so if found guilty, he risks a prison sentence.
Meanwhile, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Daniel Suciu, has announced that an additional security filter will be introduced before entering the Parliament building. As a reminder, no one was injured in the fire and the flames were extinguished by firefighters who were in the building.
