PNL President Ilie Bolojan announced on Monday that he is suspending himself from the party as he will take over as interim president of Romania.

He announced that he will propose Catalin Predoiu as interim head of the party at the National Political Bureau meeting.

This evening we had a preparatory meeting, given that, following the resignation of the President of Romania, the President of the Senate would take over this position as interim. As such, according to constitutional provisions, he can no longer be a member of a political party and in this capacity I am obliged to suspend myself as President of the National Liberal Party and as a member of the PNL. Tomorrow afternoon, there will be a meeting of the National Political Bureau where, as we discussed today, an interim will be elected for this period and the proposal I will make tomorrow is that Mr. Catalin Predoiu, the party's first vice-president, will take over this position.

Ilie Bolojan also said that a decision will also be taken on Tuesday's meeting on the replacement of the Senate president, according to Agerpres.

Klaus Iohannis announced his resignation as president of Romania on Monday.

He said he will leave the Cotroceni Palace on February 12.

The President of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, will take over as interim President of Romania.
