Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Monday that he has decided to extend by 60 days the ordinance on the capping of commercial additions to basic food products.
"I have decided to extend by 60 days the ordinance on the capping of commercial additions to basic food products. Romanians must continue to benefit from stable food prices after the madness of speculative increases in the past. I note that even those who criticised this measure in the past now recognise that, without it, prices would have risen by up to 20%. It is clear that the cap has moderated speculative price increases, helped to lower inflation and maintain the purchasing power of the population", said Marcel Ciolacu on Facebook.
"In parallel, I will continue the dialogue with the big retail chains, with whom I had a very constructive discussion today, in order to build together a long-term mechanism based on a state-business partnership in order to keep prices under control. I have only one condition: that Romanian producers and processors should be treated fairly", said the Chief Executive.
