Hundreds of thousands of fake calls to the 112 emergency number

The 112 emergency service has been abusively called, since the beginning of the year, over 231 thousand times, and most such calls were registered in Olt, Gorj, Harghita, Ialomita and Constanta counties, according to a statement from the Special Telecommunications Service.
In 6 months, an adult from Olt County called 112 over 22.400 times, using two prepaid SIM cards, the calls made by him representing over 20% of the total number in the county.
STS also stated that there are 10 times more adults who call 112 abusively than children.
The Service reminds people to call 112 only when they really have an emergency, abusive calling this number being punishable by a fine of up to 2.000 lei.
If the intervention crews travel to the field and find that it was a false alert, the fine can reach 4.000 lei.
