Romanian high school students who want to study for a year in the United States can apply for the FLEX 2025-2026 program until Thursday.
It is free of charge and available to high school students with disabilities.
The aim of the program is to promote mutual understanding between US citizens and those of other countries, and scholarship winners will be assisted in visa procedures.
The application form is available at ais.americancouncils.org/flex.
The FLEX education program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and aims to offer Romanian high school students the opportunity to study at an American high school and live with an American family during the 2025-2026 school year.
Ana-Maria Istrate, Project Coordinator: The program is open to high school students from Romania who are in ninth, tenth and eleventh grades at a high school in Romania; were born between July 15, 2007 and July 15, 2010; have Romanian citizenship and know English. The aspects they cover are: travel from the home town in Romania to the host town in the USA and back, accommodation with a host family during the school year spent in the USA, admission to an American high school. The scholarship students also receive a $200 monthly stipend, as well as support in the program throughout the year and an additional stipend of $300 for the purchase of basic school necessities. For example, textbooks, as well as medical insurance that covers treatment of illnesses that occur during the program, excluding pre-existing conditions and dental care. If they received scholarship status and study a year in the U.S. through the FLEX program, they can't enroll next year.
Reporter: In previous years of implementation, FLEX Romania has provided scholarships to hundreds of Romanian high school graduates from several counties across the country, who have been assigned to high schools in states such as Washington, Texas, Colorado, California, Hawaii and Florida.
About 1.000 high school students from all over the world will be studying in the United States this school year under the FLEX program.
When Romanian students return to their home country, the high school year spent abroad can be recognized and credited.
