New candidates from Romania, Hungary and France for the positions of European Commissioners are to be heard on Thursday in the specialized committees of the European Parliament. Adina Vălean, Thierry Breton and Oliver Varhelyi - nominated after their countries' initial proposals were rejected - have already received a positive opinion from the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), which assesses the integrity of the candidates.
RRA Correspondent in Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: "Each candidate has 15 minutes for an introductory presentation, followed by 25 questions from Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Commissioner-designate Adina Vălean will be heared in European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN) at 14:00 (Romania time). She has already answered in writing to questions asked by MEPs concerning professional competence and the management of the allocated portfolio. In her answers, Vălean talks about her 12 year experience in European law and the role she has had in the legislative file on cancellation roaming charges in the EU, but also in adopting the mechanism for interconnecting Europe. Adina Vălean also transmits she will work closely with the portfolios on climate and industrial policies to achieve goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the field of transport by 2050.
Commissioner appointed by France, Thierry Breton, for Internal Market, is to take place in parallel with Vălean’s hearing.
Hungary's candidate, Oliver Varhelyi, is nominated for the EU Commissioner for ‘Neighbourhood and Enlargement'.
