Reducing disparities between regions, protecting citizens' rights, combating discrimination are some of Romania's priorities under the Presidency of the Council of the European Union that were presented by Romanian Minister-Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, in the Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO) of the European Parliament.
Romania wants to be a partner and a good mediator during its EU Presidency, Minister-Delegate said.
RRA Reporter: Dialogue was useful for both sides, said Minister-Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, adding that Romania wants to be a fair facilitator during its EU Presidency. In addition, Romania’s EU Presidency aims to complete as many legislative files as possible before the European elections in May. Negotiating the new Multiannual Financial Framework remains at the heart of Romania’s EU Presidency, Minister Ciamba said.
Minister-Delegate George Ciamba: "We talked about what Europe looks like and what Romania’s obligations will be during its EU Presidency, it was a great opportunity not only to reaffirm but to express in concrete terms what we want to do in reference to negotiation of the Multiannual Budget of the EU for 2021-2027, which is the ambitious program of the Romanian EU Presidency, so that we can achieve steps that will lead to a final result, probably this autumn. We have shown that for us it is a very important subject, we hope to have partial results during our EU Presidency and we are sure that they will appear".
RRA Reporter: An important dossier to be managed by Romania is Brexit, Minister George Ciamba said, and the aim of Romania’s EU Presidency is to complete preparation for Britain's withdrawal so that rights of European citizens are respected.
Another concern for Romania is fight against disinformation from the perspective of European elections in May.
Adoption of the legislative package on elections and transparency of political parties is expected in April.
