Romanian Minister of Health Victor Costache sent the Control Body to the Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest, following an incident that occured last Sunday, when a patient suffered severe burns while undergoing surgery.
Victor Costache deplores the fact that some surgeons involved in this incident refuse to cooperate with the control teams.
Inspectors from the Public Health Directorate (DSP) Bucharest have already verified the surgery protocol and recorded statements of some members of the team involved in the incident. Other hearings are to take place on Monday.
"Neither the management of the hospital nor the management of the surgical department reported this particularly serious incident. I did not find out about this from the journalists, I heard it from the surgical environment. You know, the surgical world is small. This incident happened on Sunday, and we found out about it on Friday night, now it's Saturday. It is a very serious incident and it is precisely because I am also a doctor and Minister of Health that I do not want to throw the stone before finding the final result of the investigation", told Minister Victor Costache Digi 24 TV.
Case was made public by Save Romania Union MP Emanuel Ungureanu, on his Facebook page. Victim of the incident, a 66-year old woman diagnosed with cancer, has burns on 40% of the body and is in serious condition, wrote Ungureanu, revealing that the surgical team was led by Dr. Mircea Beuran. He told Radio Romania News he was not in the surgery room at the time when the fire occurred, which can be verified by checking on video the video cameras placed in the hospital.
An investigation is under way.
