Romanian Competition Council has authorized the operation through which state-owned national company Romarm - through the Moreni Automechanical Plant - and the German company Rheinmetall will set up the “Romanian Military Vehicle Systems” (RMVS), a new company which will manufacture the new model of amphibious armored vehicle, called 8x8 'AGILIS' armored conveyor, that will endow the Romanian Armed Forces.
Competition Authority had previously approved the two companies' request for a derogation from the provisions of the Romanian Competition Law, more precisely it allowed the establishment of the new company before the Council decision, since there is a low risk to affect competition, a press release states.
After analyzing this operation, the Competition Council found that it does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of it, in particular by creating or strengthening a dominant position.
The Agilis vehicle is 8.02 metres long and 2.99 metres wide (excluding the side-view mirrors) while being 2.5 metres tall in the APC variant. The vehicle is powered by a 612 horsepower diesel engine from the German manufacturer Liebheer, that is linked to a ZF transmission. The ground-clearance is projected to be 430 milimetres.
The top speed of the Agilis is expected to exceed 100 kilometres per hour on road, while the road range is more than 800 kilometres. The vehicle can climb 60% slope and drive on 30% side-slope. The vehicle is designed with a turn radius of 9.5 metres. The Agilis is an amphibious vehicle.
