The government plans to complete 75 crèches this year as part of a program to support the country's population growth, Development Minister Cseke Attila announced on Saturday.
He explained in Oradea that the demographic problem is serious as fewer and fewer children are being born.
Cseke Attila: Romania's demographic problem, from our point of view, is a pressing problem, where the government has to come up with measures, and this government program to build nurseries helps families. The figures do not look good, in 2019, 215.000 children were born in Romania. In 2023, this number is 155.000. That's a steep drop of almost 30 percent. For 2024, we don't have the final statistics, but they will certainly show a decrease compared to 2023.
On Saturday, Development Minister Cseke Attila, together with the mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta, inaugurated a 110-place nursery, realized by the government program "Sainte Ana", which started in 2022.
