The government has increased funding to combat drug trafficking, as drug use is increasingly prevalent at younger and younger ages.
New posts have been approved in specialized structures, and two laboratories for the analysis and identification of banned substances have been inaugurated.
Anti-drugs expert Catalin Tone emphasized on Radio Romania News that these are unprecedented measures to help in the fight against this scourge.
Catalin Tone: For the first time in the history of the country, if you like, and not only of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a separate chapter has been created, and it is called the Roadmap on Drugs, and the amount allocated for this segment, an additional amount, is one billion lei. In addition to this, it was approved and efforts are being made to employ 200 more police officers, agents and officers in anti-drug structures, which is a pressing need in all parts of the country, given that the phenomenon has spread. Also, it is very important that the procedure for the purchase of six spectrometers and 15 mobile drug-testing scanners, which will be used by the anti-drug police, is being finalized.
