Reporter: Alina Stanuta: "They aim to revitalize international collaboration, to strengthen the collective ability to prevent, detect, deter and respond to these attacks. The US Ambassador to Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, pointed out in her opening speech that the threats of radiological and nuclear terrorism do not respect national borders and must be tackled collectively.
Kathleen Kavalec: "Many of you have been members of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, through which we have worked for nearly two decades with Russia to this end. Unfortunately, Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine has made it impossible to continue cooperation to this end. Russia carried out its aggression against Ukraine under a nuclear threat marked by irresponsible actions and threats of escalation. We have seen how the mere threat of nuclear escalation jeopardizes international stability. Russia continues to use its nuclear arsenal to create division, risking deliberate or unintentional escalation."
Participants will also discuss progress in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology, an example being the development of small modular reactors, including in Romania at Doicesti."
