The visit of the Prime Minister of Romania to the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany continued today with a meeting with representatives of the German business environment, after which the Prime Minister of Romania met at the headquarters of the Bundestag with Ms. Katrin Goring-Eckardt, the vice-president of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, and with representatives of the German Parliament from the main political groups.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will also have a working meeting with representatives of the German defense industry. On the occasion of his presence in Berlin, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu emphasized the importance of cooperation between Romania and Germany and the significant potential it offers, given that Germany is Romania's most important commercial partner.
Germany has shown interest in investing in petrochemicals, given the country's gas discoveries. Thus, one of the targets of German companies is the fertilizer industry. Another area of interest for Germany is the country's construction materials industry. The interest is motivated by the imminent start of reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, and Romania will be a gateway for foreign companies.
The Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, showed that there are numerous own resources, but also projects in the area of energy that ensure Romania a decisive role in the stability of the region. At the same time, Romania has a significant potential in the area of agriculture. Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, was convinced that this visit will add a new chapter to the good Romanian-German relations.
Security on NATO's eastern flank and the next NATO summit in Vilnius next week were also discussed during the bilateral meeting. First of all, Chancellor Olaf Scholz wanted to explicitly thank Romania for the firm reaction it had to the Russian invasion in the neighboring country, Ukraine. At the same time, the support given to the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank is exemplary, Scholz also said, specifying that Romania is an important, reliable, ally and partner.
The German chancellor also stated that he supports Romania becoming a full member of the Schengen area this year, because Bucharest would have already undertaken major efforts in this regard.
