Gaudeamus International Book Fair 2018: 14-18 November, Romexpo Bucharest

Articol de Radio România, 11 Noiembrie 2018, 19:33

Gaudeamus International Fair, organized by Radio Romania and initiated 25 years ago, is to take place on 14-18 November in Bucharest’s Romexpo Central Pavilion. Official opening of the Fair, this year at its 25th edition, is scheduled for Wednesday, November 14, at 12:00.

According to the President Director General of Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company (Radio Romania), Georgică Severin, this year’s Fair takes place under the high patronage of the Romanian Government, within a multi-anniversary context: Centenary of the Great Union, end of the First World War, 90 years since first broadcast of Radio Romania, one of Europe's oldest radio stations, and 25 editions of Gaudeamus Fair.

"This year we haven’t considered a guest of honor in the usual sense; we wanted all the work to focus around the Centenary", Georgică Severin said at Radio Hall press conference.

Most read book Fair, organized by the most listened Romanian radio station, Gaudeamus International Fair - a solid and constant landmark of the book market in Romania over the past twenty years - is the main component of the Reading Program, national project initiated by Radio Romania in 1994 in order to support national culture through exhibitions dedicated to books and education. The 24-year history of Gaudeamus includes 109 fairs across the country (including the current edition), over 2,900,000 visitors, about 12,600 events, thus bringing Radio Romania - the only radio station in the world that develops such a cultural project - as a national leader in the field.

Central theme of this edition is the Centenary, which will be marked with a representative stand showing a collection of about 600 volumes dedicated to this historical moment and with about 50 events (book launches and presentations, debates, film screenings, public readings). Centenary Stand, organized by Bucharest City Hall with the support of National Museum of the Romanian Literature and Bucharest Museum, will give an excellent opportunity for visitors to meet and talk to some of the most appreciated writers, literary critics and Romanian historians of the moment.

Honorary President of the edition is acad. Ioan-Aurel Pop, President of the Romanian Academy.
