Gărâna International Jazz Festival: 11-14 July

Gărâna International Jazz Festival, at its 23th edition, takes place between 11-14 July. Gărâna, a beautiful mountain village, hosts four days of concerts and musical experiences dedicated to jazz fans. Concerts will take place in Poiana Lupului, Catholic Church in Văliug village and “La Răscruce”” Inn, the place where the first edition of the Festival took place, 22 years ago.
This year, 60 Romanian and international artists from all over the world have announced their participation in the Gărâna Jazz Festival, bringing 20 of the world's newest jazz projects to the three scenes of the festival.
Old and new friends of the Festival, music lovers and fans of Transylvanian traditional cuisine are expected to enjoy concerts, hiking, mountain-biking and local gastronomy.
Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek returns to the Festival scene after 12 years, along with three top class musicians: Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, German composer Rainer Brüninghaus and Brazilian guitarist Yuri Daniel.
Concerts in the second day of the Festival (Friday) will begin at 11 am in the village of Văliug, where the Catholic Church will host the traditional annual concert of keyboardist Raul Kusak.
After 19 o'clock, Romanian jazz performers Horea Crişovan & JazzyBIT and Petre Ionuţescu & Daniel Dorobanţu will be on stage in Poiana Lupului.
Among international guests is Giovanni Guidi, whom the festival's audience could hear during the 2017 Enrico Rava-Tomasz Stańko Quintet concert, and he will present his own quintet this time.
Giovanni Guidi Quintet will play tracks from the new album, "Avec Le Temps", released this spring at ECM Records, according to RRA Correspondent Mario Balint.
Other performers are the MRB Trio: Mathisen-Robin-Borlai, Raul kusak, Jacky Terrasson Trio, Renaud Garcia-Fons&Dorantes, Gregory Privat Trio, Lars Danielsson&Paolo Fresu, Rodion G.A, Afrodizzy, Catalin Milea Group, Maciej Obara Quartet, Bobby Previte’s Classic, John Surman Trio, Moshulu, Adrian Schwartz-Dinu&Horea Crisovan, Sorin Zlat Quartet, Philipp Gropper’s PHILM.
Tickets: one-day 85 lei; subscription for three days at the price of 240 lei and subscription for the whole period of the festival, at the price of 300 lei.
