Romania will benefit from funds worth 31.5 billion euros from the current multiannual budget of the European Union for the promotion of cohesion and the transition to a green and digital economy. The money is allocated based on a partnership agreement concluded with the community executive.
Reporter: Mihaela Mihai - The cohesion policy of the European Union is intended to reduce the development gaps between member states, but also between regions, and the money must be used for this purpose. Of the 31.5 billion euros that Romania will benefit from until the end of 2027, over 4 billion come from the European Regional Development Fund and will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time they will support research and innovation through collaboration between companies and universities. Another 6.75 billion euros are intended for the transition to a green economy, by increasing energy efficiency, reducing polluting emissions or preserving biodiversity. More than 2 billion euros will be used to modernize the health system, while more than 7 billion are intended for sustainable transport. More than 7 billion euros are funds allocated for improving access to the labor market, with a special emphasis on reducing the unemployment rate among young people and on quality education. Sustainable fishing will benefit from investments exceeding 162 million euros.
