French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, on official visit to Bucharest on 11-12 April, has had a meeting, on Thursday, with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu, with whom he discussed, among other issues, the recent attack in Syria.
For Paris, there is a clear red line in the war in Syria, namely the use of chemical weapons, French Foreign Minister said. France is determined to take action, he added, without specifying how.
In turn, Romanian Foreign Minister said Romania supports the creation of a body to investigate the recent attack in Syria and to decide what measures should be taken.
Meleșcanu also said he had asked for France's support for a swift decision at European level regarding Romania's accession to the Schengen area.
French Foreign Minister will meet, on Thursday, with Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and President Klaus Iohannis.
French Minister's visit to Bucharest takes place in the context in which Francois Macron, the President of France, is trying to gain broader support among EU Member States for a series of institutional and functioning reforms of the European Union.
Romania and France have similar positions regarding the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), as next month, European Commission will present a multi-annual budget proposal for the period after 2020, and for the agricultural policy there are some new funding mechanisms that Romania disagrees.
