The United Nations Organization (UNO) announced that food prices on the global market reached a new record in December, as a consequence of higher sugar, grains and oilseeds quotes, Mediafax reads.
This new record for food prices has exceeded the 2008 highest, that led to riots and casualties in Haiti and Egypt.
A 55 raw materials index, analyzed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has risen for six straight months, from 213.5 points, the June 2008 record, to 214.7 points, according to a monthly report of the UNO quoted by Bloomber.
In November, the Food and Agriculture Organization warned that food prices might mount, if the grain harvest doesn’t ‘significantly’ improve world wide.
