Romanian National Authority of Quality Management in Health has suspended, on Monday, accreditation of Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest, the largest emergency hospital in Romania. Decision was made because hospital did not report within 24 hours the incident as a result of which a 66-year old patient died because of severe burns during surgery.
The woman suffered third degree burns after surgeons used an electrosurgical instrument to stop internal bleeding
The police are conducting an investigation for manslaughter. The hospital must now prove it can take measures to resolve the problems that led to this terrible incident.
Floreasca Hospital will remain open but will have to comply with strict regulations.
