Five Romanians died in an explosion at a chemical plant in northern Czech Republic, Romanian Foreign Ministry announced, according to latest information from local authorities who continue to identify victims.
Czech authorities launched an investigation. Total number of dead people is six, and there are also several severe injured persons.
Incident occurred at the Unipetrol chemical plant in Kralupi nad Vltavou, North of Prague. It was determined by a fire at a storage tank, according to a statement by Unipetrol.
Representatives of the Romanian Embassy in the Czech Republic have already visited Prague’s Vinohrady Hospital to make sure there are no more Romanian workers among those injured by the blast.
Romanian diplomatic mission took steps to identify and notify the families of the deceased Romanians. Romanian Foreign Ministry expresses deep compassion for the loss of lives and conveys sincere condolences to the families.
Romanian Embassy in the Czech Republic monitors the situation, maintains constant contact with local authorities and is ready to provide consular assistance, including for repatriation of the victims’ bodies.
