First Romanian ever elected to Canadian Parliament
Corneliu Chisu, a member of the Conservative Party of Canada, is the first elected MP of Romanian origin to the Canadian Parliament. He left Romania in 1976.

Corneliu Chisu, a member of the Conservative Party of Canada, was recently elected to Parliament in Ottawa, after defeating in the general elections the Liberal Dan McTeague, who has been member of the college for 17 years.
CorneliuChisu is 62 years old and ran in the district of Pickering-Scarborough East, where according to his statements, are spoken over 170 foreign languages.
When invited as part of a show on Radio Antena Satelor, he said that victory had a special significance for him, being the first elected MP of Romanian origin in the Canadian Parliament.
Corneliu Chisu was born in Satu Mare. He graduated from Bucharest Polytechnic University in 1971.
During 1972-1976 he was an assistant in the same University. In 1976 he left Romania, first settling in Italy, and then immigrating to Canada in 1981.
Arriving in Toronto, he worked at the Commercial Delegation of Italy, on the position of Senior Trade Analyst, a position which has advised the Italian companies that want to enter the Canadian market.
Between 1985 and 1988 he attended a Master's degree in engineering at the University of Toronto, and in May 1990 - March 2009 he served as chief engineer in the Canadian armed forces.
He participated in missions in Bosnia and Afghanistan and he received the following awards: Canadian Forces Decoration (CD), Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, NATO Medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal and General Campaign Star of Afghanistan.
