The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe adopted a final declaration at the end of its annual session in Bucharest. It includes resolutions of the internal committees, including on the deteriorating human rights situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. Another important topic debated during the five-day meeting was Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
Reporter: Alina Stanuta - "The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe respects international law, but also the principles of the organization, established since 1975 in Helsinki, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu said during the final session of the meeting in Bucharest. Any deviation from these principles must be highlighted and sanctioned, stressed Luminita Odobescu.
Luminita Odobescu: "This is the reason why the Russian delegation and the Belarusian delegation are not present at this annual meeting. Until Russia ceases this unjustified aggression against a sovereign state, this organization, including its parliamentary assembly, cannot resume its work in a normal way and remains a forum where Russia is held accountable for violating international law."
The OSCE has the necessary resources to mitigate the consequences of the war and to support a path to peace in Ukraine, foreign minister Luminita Odobescu added. She also drew attention to frozen conflicts as a tool of oppression."
