The Bucharest prefect, Mihai Atănăsoaie, has sanctioned the Romanian Football Federation and singer Marcel Pavel with an individual fine of 5 000 lei for performing the national anthem with a different text before the match between Romania and France, which was held Tuesday night, on the National Arena.
Prefect Mihai Atănăsoaie has explained that the Prefecture is one of the institutions which can sanction the failure to respect the legal provisions concerning the performance of the national anthem.
"If we do not respect the values which have consecrated us within our country, we should not be surprised that, in the context of various international competitions, we hear Trei culori cunosc pe lume instead of Deşteaptă-te române!", Mihai Atănăsoaie stated.

Prior to the match between Romania and France, Marcel Pavel changed two verses of the national anthem Deşteaptă-te române!.
Singer Marcel Pavel specified that the time frame assigned for both national anthems was of 3 minutes and that he actually exceeded that time limit by 10 seconds.
Marcel Pavel declared that "if I said that, the interpretation would have been a political one. I would have been reproached, had I sung about Traian".
General Mayor Sorin Oprescu blames Marcel Pavel’s mistake on nervousness.
