Romania hosts on 26 March-1 April the Senior European Weightlifting Championship at the “Sydney 2000” Olympic Center in Izvorani, near Bucharest, attended by over 200 athletes from 32 countries.
Elena Ramona Andrieș (Romania, age 23) won three gold medals for category 48 kg, and Constantin Ciotoiu (Romania) won a bronze medal for category 56 kg.

This is the third time Romania hosts a European Weightlifting Championship, after 1972 (Constanța) and 2009 (Bucharest).
