The European Court of Human Rights has condemned Romania for failing to punish a man who posted intimate photos of his ex-partner on the internet in revenge.
The ECHR points out that although the complainant immediately notified the authorities of the facts, the prosecution and trial dragged on for a long time, even reaching the end of the statute of limitations for criminal liability.
The case was eventually closed.
The Court ruled that the Bucharest authorities' approach to the publication of intimate images on the internet without consent was inappropriate and ordered the state to pay the victim €7.500 for non-material damage.
