The European Commission has launched two in-depth investigations in Romania into possible problems in the implementation of a large EU-funded project.
According to a press release issued by the EU executive, a tender launched by a company in Rovinari for the design, construction and operation of a photovoltaic park is targeted.
The project is partly financed by the European Modernisation Fund, and the Commission considered that there were sufficient indications that two of the bidders had received foreign subsidies distorting the internal market.
One of the bidding consortia is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the other is subordinate to the Chinese Central People's Government, the EU executive added.
