According to the members of the European Popular Party gathered in Bucharest, the EU economic policies and the relation between member states need to undergo major changes.
A talk on the solutions to the prolongued global crisis was held at the Palace of the Parliament. The development of the reforms implemented in Romania is important for the entire European Union.
That was the message delivered by the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, within a plenary session on the economic crisis.
Jerzy Buzek is aware of the fact that the reforms have been painful for citizens and argues that the next objective is to improve people's condition.
According to the leader of the European Parliament, a better integration of the member states is essential for responding to the crisis.
"I regret today's delay in Romania and Bulgaria Schengen accession. It is a wrong decision because it keeps Europe divided. The main priority is to prove a skeptic public that Europe can work for them. Moreover, a fundamental question must be answered: how can the economic government of 27, 28 or 20 states be introduced in the next treaty of the Union?", Jerzy Buzek stated.
European Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani, responsible for Industry and Entrepreneurship believes that there is a need for change in the way the European policies work.
Antonio Tajani noted that so far more policies had been implemented in European financial sector. According to him, from now on, we must focus on the real economy.
"We must restore the trust of the markets, we must implement an economic policy that can change what is happening now in Europe. If we want to win, we have to make a change and work in favour of the real economy. What does real economy mean? First of all, the internal market", Antonio Tajani stated.
Apart from the economic problems, Europe might face a food crisis in the near future.
Dacian Cioloş, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, believes that the present model of agricultural policy can no longer be sustained and claims that a new reform of the system should be aimed at the environment policies since the environment cannot be separated from agriculture.
"I believe it is obvious that now we cannot talk about increasing the agricultural production without talking about the problem regarding the quality of the soil, the fertility of the soil, the quality and quantity of water and the biodiversity", Dacian Cioloş stated.
The summer school of the European network of ideas held at the Palace of the Parliament continued with a plenary session on the European society in the 21st century. The Minister of Labour, Sulfina Barbu, gave a speech as well.
