Secretary General of the Council of the EU, Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, has discussed today in Bucharest with government officials about Romania’s preparation to take over the Presidency of the EU Council.
Discussions were held with Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and Minister-Delegate for European Affairs, Victor Negrescu.
Presidency of the EU Council is a priority for Romania, as it will have to respond to several challenges at European level related to Brexit, the multi-annual financial framework, but also to the files that will have to be taken over from the Austrian EU Presidency, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said today at the Victoria Palace meeting with EU Secretary General Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen.
Viorica Dăncilă: I want to assure you that starting with the second part of the year, starting July 1, we will ensure the "shadow" of the Austrian EU Presidency, and this will help us to take over much more easily the files are currently in work and will not be finalized by the Austrian EU Presidency.
RRA Reporter: Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen considers that the Bucharest authorities are on the right track in terms of preparations for the Presidency of the EU Council.
Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen: I have already had several meetings this morning that have fully convinced me that Romania is on the right track in terms of preparations for a successful EU Presidency next year.
