Raising the tax ceiling for pensions to 3.000 lei, the exemption from interest and penalties for those who pay their arrears and the proposal for the post of European Commissioner for Romania were topics on the agenda of the discussions.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu says that the field that Romania will represent in the future European Commission is very important, and that negotiations are aimed at obtaining a representative portfolio.
The Prime Minister admits that from the very beginning the head of the European Commission insisted that the proposal should be a woman.
Marcel Ciolacu: The President of the Commission doesn't do this only with Romania, she does it with all the prime ministers of the European Union and it's a longer process that we will finalize. If the most suitable person for a certain portfolio is a woman, then we will nominate a woman. If a man is best suited for a portfolio, we will nominate a man. It matters a lot in the field we are going to represent.
Friday is the deadline by which Romania, like all other EU member states, must come up with a proposal for a European Commissioner.
In opposition, USR has invited Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to Parliament next Tuesday to explain the candidate selection process and to announce who will be proposed.
