The European Commission's Representation in Romania is worried that the planned Judiciary reform announced by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader could affect the independence of the Justice System if it entered into force.
Head of the EC Representation in Romania, Angela Cristea, shows her surprise about some press materials according to which the proposals were discussed or even supported by the European Commission.
The EU Executive has already requested the authorities in Bucharest for the draft amendments to the laws of justice and additional explanations, which will be analyzed in detail as soon as they are received - the communiqué of the European Commission Representation in Romania points out, underlying that any measure taken by the Romanian authorities must reinforce the irreversibility of the progress that has already been made in consolidating the rule of law.
