Director: Georgiana Grosso - The pay gap between men and women is in Romania at one of the lowest levels among the member states of the European Union. The statistics come back to attention on the occasion of Equal Opportunities Day, which was officially marked on May 8 in Romania also, starting in 2015. Romania has, since 20 years ago, a law with provisions designed to eliminate gender discrimination in all areas of public life, Elena Carstea, director of the National Agency for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, reminded Radio Romania Constanta.
Elena Carstea: This law has provisions for what it means to prevent and avoid discrimination on the grounds of sex in the field of health, education, culture, politics, and I think the most important provisions are those in the field of labor. We all know that women also have an "invisible" job, and we are talking about the double work of women, because after the end of their job hours, women take care of dependents, children, and then it is our role is to come up with provisions on the work-life balance directive and to harmonize these two important spheres of life.
