Romania has an important role to play as an energy security provider in the region, given the vulnerabilities in the area, Romanian Energy Minister Toma Petcu has said today in Ploieşti.
The Minister made this declaration during an energy summit celebrating the 160th anniversary from the setting of the first Romanian refinery, the one in Ploiești. This is a moment when we can look into the future, he said.
Petcu: "With a huge potential to strengthen this position and with the same interest of today's politicians ,and also in the perspective of the role that Romania wants and can assume in the future, I want to let you know that the 160 years that we celebrate today coincide with an extremely important event in the energy sector, which Romania hosts on September 27-28: The 2017 Central and South Eastern European Gas Connectivity (CESEC) Ministerial Meeting.
At the Summit in Ploieşti, participants mainly discuss the development of a competitive energy market in Romania and the interconnection with the regional and European energy market.
The Summit is expected to be attended by Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the Energy Union, and Hans Klemm, Ambassador of the United States in Bucharest.
