Embassies of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United States of America have released today a joint statement calling "on all parties involved in amending the Romanian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code to avoid changes that might weaken the rule of law or Romania's ability to fight against crime and corruption".

Diplomatic representatives of the 12 Western countries remain concerned that several of these changes might hinder international law enforcement cooperation and might negatively affect the fight against violent crime, cross-border organized crime, financial crime and drug and human trafficking.
