Elbit Systems, an international high technology company running defense, security and civilian projects, has inaugurated, on 27 November, a new unit for the production and integration of terrestrial defense systems. Opening ceremony of the new plant was attended by high Romanian officials, along with representatives of the Romanian defense industry and honor guests from abroad. The new unit will function as a production and integration center for the turrets and weapon stations contracted in local programs, but also as a regional hub designed to cover the demand for such systems for other countries.
"I am glad to announce that the new factory will start its activity immediately and fulfill orders not only from the Romanian Ministry of National Defense and but also the ones that have already been placed by international clients", said Yehuda (Udi) Vered, CEO of Elbit Systems Terrestrial and C4i Systems Division, according to a communiqué from representatives of Elbit Systems.
Elbit Systems has been operating successfully in Romania for more than 25 years and is a traditional supplier of the Ministry of National Defense, having a close collaboration with other local defense companies. During this time, Elbit Systems carried out ample programs devoted to Romanian land forces, modernizing combat aircraft or providing solutions for the naval forces.
Located at the Măgurele industrial platform in the immediate vicinity of Bucharest, the new factory covers almost 1,000 square meters and is the fourth unit opened by Elbit Systems in 1993 since it entered the Romanian market. New unit will expand production, research and development, increase the number of employees and allow the transfer of technological know-how in Romania.
"The new factory is yet another step by which we tighten our ties with Romania. It is a privilege to be able to provide advanced technological systems to land forces within the Romanian army. We are proud to be able to expand the production activity we already have in Romania and we can use the experience gained at global level both to intensify the transfer of technology to Romania, to increase local employment and increase export potential", Vered added.
