Education laws are under government review

Articol de Radiojurnal, 09 Martie 2023, 02:37

The draft laws of education enter the government's analysis today, in order to establish the final form of the documents that will be proposed to the parliament. The anticipated changes have already generated discussions and even objections in the public space, and the debates in the legislature are also announced to be heated, as the opposition has launched several criticisms of the changes announced by the Minister of Education.

PNL deputy Dan Leoreanu states, however, that the new laws will contribute to reducing school dropouts and improving the quality of education and the adaptation of young people to the labor market.

Dan Leoreanu: The introduction of the concept of educational portfolio will help school counselors, teachers and parents to decide which is the best path for the student. The "Healthy Meal" program will also function as a social incentive for students from low-income families. Also, teaching staff will have a higher degree of professionalism, as a result of the introduction of the need to graduate from a form of higher education to enter the position.

From the opposition, AUR deputy Gianina Serban believes that the projects are made in haste, have many shortcomings and generate imbalances.

Gianina Serban: The possibility that some high schools schedule entrance exams can lead to inequities between children, instead of taking into account a level exam at the end of the 10 mandatory classes. I received these laws with great disappointment, there are many unresolved issues, the much-praised progress of education being non-existent. On the contrary, we are registering a decline in the quality of education.
