President Traian Băsescu requested the Prime Minister he would consider appropriate that, before her investiture ceremony, Ecaterina Andronescu should hand written statement to the Prime Minister ’s staff, assuring that she isn’t guilty of any plagiarism charges in regard to her doctorate thesis and scientific works and the theses she coordinated.
The swearing in ceremony of Ecaterina Andronescu will take place at Cotroceni Palace at 18;00, according to a press release issued by the presidential administration.
Upon designating the new Minister of Culture, the President also requested the Prime Minister in the wake of the recent plagiarism charges brought against members of the Government, that Puiu Hașotti should declare that he hasn’t resorted to plagiarism for his doctorate thesis or other scientific works.
USL have vehemently criticized the President’s request, menacing him with suspension if the President doesn’t install the liberal senator into office.
Upon the formation of the Ponta Government, Ecaterina Andronescu, vice president of PSD, was proposed for the department of education but she wasn’t nominated due to a lawsuit she had with ANI, who had accused her of conflict of interest.
On the 15th of May, the Appeal Court of Bucharest ruled in her favor, annulling the ANI decision according to which she was incompatible with her mandate as minister of education in 2009, when she was also manager of a POSDRU project.
